“If you have found a quiet bench in a quiet park and sat down,
be sure you had a very profitable day.” - Mehemet Murat Ildan
Friends of McCree Parks
Highland Meadows Neighborhood Association has recently entered an agreement with Dallas Parks & Recreration to create Friends of McCree Parks. This partnership will assure that we will have a greater influence on the design, maintenance, care, and conservation of McCree Park, McCree Annex Park, and McCree East Park which are all located within the boundaries of Highland Meadows.
We look forward to sharing more about Friends of McCree Parks in the coming months along with a schedule of events that focus on conservation, education, and the environment.

Whats Next for the McCree Parks?
In spring of 2025 Highland Meadows Neighborhood Association presented a plan to Dallas Parks and Recreation that will transform our three neighborhood parks (McCree Park, McCree East, and McCree Annex) into conservation areas that will include native wildflowers, native grasses, walking trails, and educational opportunities. This plan is inspired by Horseshoe Bay Nature Park near Austin where eight ecological zones in the park support hundreds of species of native fauna and flora. Walking trails wind through mixed tall grass and short grass prairie, along with wildflowers. Along the trail, you’ll find and observation deck, bird blind, wildlife watering station, nesting boxes, and chimney swift towers.
The city of Dallas, with the support of Council Member Kathy Stewart, has committed $500,000.00 for this project through the most recent Bond Program. The plans are now in the design process and will be presented in the coming months.
We believe that is a transformative moment for our neighborhood parks and one that will elevate the quality of life in our neighborhood while feeding the soul and inspiring the minds of the entire community.
We look forward to providing details on this project as they become available.
McCree Park
McCree Park is a 10.4 acre park established in 1958 and located within the boundaries of Highland Meadows Neighborhood Association. Amenities include a baseball field, benches, pavilion, picnic tables, playground and tennis courts.
McCree Annex Park and McCree East Park
McCree Annex Park (1971) and McCree East Park (1974) are conservation areas located within our neighborhood and are natural buffers for our neighborhood creeks and wildlife. Preserving and protecting these natural areas and habitat within our neighborhood helps to enhance bio diversity and the ecosystem which in turn supports air and water purification, pollination, and climate regulation.
